The sunsets around the Reykjavík area can be quite beautiful and breathtaking but nothing compares to the midnight sunset at the Grótta Lighthose with amazing panorama view over Faxaflói bay. On a clear sky evening the view reaches all the way from Snæfellsnes peninsula to the mountain range of Akrafjall, Skarðsheiði and Mt Esja. Being able to explore the area on a stand up paddle board makes the experience something that you will never forget.
Grótta Lighthouse is located on the edge of Reykjavik Peninsula, only 10 minutes from the mid town of Reykjavík which makes it the perfect tour to add to your plans in Reykjavík. The parking lot at the lighthose can get quite crowded on those fine summer nights with both local people and travelers enjoying the sunset or running and walk by the coast. There is even a small hot water jacuzzi built from rocks down the by the ocean and we always try to dip in after the paddling.
The entry out to the ocean is a super easy sandy beach that makes it really easy for beginners to join on this tour.
